I lived and worked in the CTR Med for 10 years. I love and is the center and close to everything.
My suggestion is to use an apt locator. www.rentersresource.com are great!
Some apartments are really nice.
Camden Vanderbilt Museum Herman @ Esplanade Circle, Kirby Place, Lanesborough, the Maroneal, Plaza del Oro Townhomes, San Marino, Alexan Cityside, Herman Plaza @ district of Valencia and 2600 Grammercy Park
There are many more, but they offer the best equipment and are not "ruinous."
Hope this helps.

Try to check out rent.com or www.chron.com (Houston Chronicle), lists of apartments. As for housing projects that are good and should be avoided, which comes only to a) know the area, and b) nor in the same place. I could not say at the top of my head that are better than others, but generally want to places to hold on or near the medical center to date.

Sorry, could no longer useful, but I hope you find what you are looking for. Good luck and good hunting!
